The Broodlord!

As you know I play Tyranids for Warhammer 40K. I enjoy painting them because they feel both very natural, and at the same time very unnatural, giving it that somewhat creepy and uneasy feeling. Well recently I've been painting up a broodlord and I think it looks pretty good. I'll give you a rundown of how I painted it.

I started the red with Khorne red from the Citadel paint range. I then layered it with Wazdakka red. After that I layered it with evil sunz scarlet and gave it a wash in Carroburg crimson. I then highlighted with evil sunz.

As for the white I started with Celestra Grey as a base. I then layered up to the Vallejo White-Grey air paint. Afterwards I gave it a wash with Abbadon black that had been mixed with a fair bit of medium. It was around 4:1 or until it becomes very runny. This was then layered with the White-Grey again and then highlighted with pallid wych flesh.

The purple for the veins began with a base of the xereus purple layer paint from Citadel. I then made a 50/50 mix of xereus purple and the Vallejo air White-Grey paint and layered that on top. I then took that mix and mixed another 50/50 ratio with the Vallejo air White-Grey paint and used that to highlight all purple areas.

The claws were pretty simple. I started with Zandri dust as a base, layered with screaming skull, washed with agrax earthshade and highlighted with screaming skull.

Here he is in all of his glory

Well that's it for me this week. Next week I'll be showing off my Flesh Eater Courts Vampire! Have a great weekend and Happy Halloween
